What We Believe
The Statement of Faith of Mt Zion House of Prayer
This church holds the following statement of faith. For a more detailed statement see the 1963 Mennonite Confession of Faith.
We accept the entire Bible as the inspired Word of God and the only authority for faith and practice.
II Peter 3:15, 16; II Peter 1:20, 21; Psalm 19
We believe in one God, eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who is the Creator and sustainer of all things.
Isa. 57:15; John 4:24; Gen. 1:1; Col 1:16
We believe in Jesus Christ, the Eternal Son of God, born of a virgin, who made atonement for sins through His sacrificial death and glorious resurrection.
Luke 19:10; John 1:1-18; John 3:16; Acts 2:32, 33; I Tim. 2:5; Heb. 2:14,15
We believe in the person of the Holy Spirit who convicts of sin, righteousness, and judgment, is instrumental in the new birth, indwells the believer, and gives power for holiness and service.
John 14:16, 17, 26; John 16:7-15; Acts 1:8; Galatians 5:22-24
We believe that man was created in the image of God, sinless and holy, but fell into sin, bringing depravity and death to the human race.
Gen. 1:27; Gen. 3:1-19; Rom. 5:12-21; Eph 2
We believe that salvation is by grace through faith in Christ, a free gift given by God to those who repent and believe.
Eph 2:8, 9; Acts 2:38; John 3:16; 1 John 1:8-10
We believe that Jesus Christ is the head of the church, the church is composed of those truly born again, baptized by one Spirit, whose primary purpose is to proclaim the Gospel throughout the world.
Matt. 16:6-18; Matt. 28:19, 20; Acts 1:8; I Cor. 12:13
We believe that Spiritual gifts are given by God for the work of ministry and that the spirit of unity and harmony is realized when the church recognizes and respects those gifts.
Rom. 12:4-18; Eph. 4:1-16
We believe that Christians are called to walk in holiness and simplicity, endeavoring to follow the example and pattern Jesus gave us in Matthew 5-7.
We believe that the state is ordained of God to maintain order in society, and that Christians should honor rulers, be subject to authorities, witness to the State and pray for governments.
Rom. 13:1-7; 1 Peter 5:5; Heb. 13:17
We believe that Christian marriage is intended by God to be the union of one man and one woman for life and that it is to be kept holy. The family is important in the training and nurture of a godly seed.
Gen. 1:27, 28; I Cor. 7:39; Eph. 6:1-4
We believe in the personal, imminent coming of the Lord and that at death the unsaved enter everlasting punishment, and the saved into everlasting life.
Matt. 25; II Peter 3; John 14:3; Rev. 20:10-15
We believe that it is the will of God for Christians to refrain from force and violence in human relations and to show Christian love to all men.
