Good morning! It’s always a pleasure to be here with you, to sing, think, and be in the presence of each other. Today, I want to talk about discipleship and the importance of being a disciple.
Discipleship: Being More Than Doing
In the past, I’ve always felt that discipleship was just another thing to add to our already busy lives. But I’ve come to realize that discipleship is about being more so than doing. It’s about being a student and a teacher, and it’s about walking with and learning from each other.
The Student and the Teacher
I want to ask you, which is more important, the student or the teacher? The truth is, they are both equally important. We all have moments when we are both students and teachers, and that’s the beauty of being part of a community of believers.
Sharing the Word
As disciples, we share the gospel through our lives and our actions. We speak about the gospel as we live according to it, and we share it with others through our demeanor and reactions to different situations. We are always teaching and learning from each other, whether we realize it or not.
Showing the Word
Discipleship is not just about teaching with words, but also about showing others how to live a Christian life. It’s about walking, running, praying, and talking with each other. It’s about leading by example and being a mentor to others.
Teaching the Word
While some may have the gift of teaching, every disciple of Jesus is intended to saturate their words with God’s words. We are all called to reproduce the word and to share our gifts with others. Whether it’s the gift of hospitality, caring, or doing deeds for each other, we are all called to use our gifts to build up the body of Christ.
Conclusion and Prayer
As we continue on our journey of discipleship, let’s remember that we are both students and teachers. Let’s embrace the opportunity to learn from each other and to share the good news of the gospel with those around us. Let’s pray for God’s spirit to guide us and bless us as we walk in faithfulness and fellowship together.
